Privacy Policy

Overview
Praxis (the "extension") turns YouTube videos into hands-on practice exercises. This policy explains what data the extension collects, where it goes, and how it is handled. Praxis is designed privacy-first: you bring your own AI API key (BYOK), and your video transcripts are processed only to generate the exercise you request.
What we collect
- User ID: a random identifier (e.g.
u_) generated and stored locally in your browser. It lets the backend associate your usage and feedback with you without an account.
- Video URL and transcript: sent to the Praxis backend and then to the AI provider you choose, solely to generate a practice exercise from the video's content.
- Feedback and completion signals: like/dislike ratings, optional comments, and "mark done" signals you submit in the extension.
- Usage metadata: timestamps, model used, response times, and outcome (success/error/blocked). Metadata only; we never log transcripts, prompts, or user content server-side.
- API key (BYOK): when you configure the extension, your key is stored in your browser's local storage and sent per-request to the AI provider you selected. It is never stored on our servers.
Where data goes
- Praxis backend (praxis.midnightbuilds.fyi): processes your request and relays it to the AI provider. Server logs retain metadata (never transcripts or prompts).
- AI providers you choose: your API key provider (e.g. Google, OpenAI, Anthropic, OpenRouter, OpenCode Zen) receives the video transcript and your key to generate the exercise, per their own privacy policies.
- YouTube: videos and transcripts originate from YouTube; we do not control YouTube's data practices.
How data is used
- To generate practice exercises from videos you request.
- To show usage statistics on the product dashboard (aggregate and per-user counts for operators).
- To improve exercise quality based on your feedback ratings.
We do not sell your data. We do not use your data for advertising. We do not share data with third parties except the AI provider required to generate the exercise.
Retention
Usage metadata and feedback are retained in server logs for operational and analytics purposes. Transcripts and prompts are not retained server-side. You may request deletion of your usage data by contacting us at the address below with your user ID.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the product evolves. Material changes will be reflected here with a new effective date.
